Block Paving

 

When first laid and sanded it looks great, unfortunately often when paving is sold, it’s not mentioned that the surface is high maintenance. If left unattended for a year or two big problems can start. The joints between the blocks can become clogged up with weeds, grass, moss, algae and dirt. Oil and other stains can spoil the surface giving your home and driveway a neglected appearance. We do advise that oil and grease stains are treated as soon as possible. If left, they may become embedded and very tough to remove.

To keep the paving looking its best it should have an annual power wash to remove dirt, moss, weeds etc, be re-sanded and maintained with an application of weed killer.

 

Cleaning your block paving.

 

Firstly we start with a clear and clean up. Removing all weeds (we advise all weeds are treated with weed killer at least 3 weeks before pressure washing starts), and remove all bins, liftable pots, mats, ornaments etc from the area being cleaned.

All areas that need special attention are then addressed, oil stains and any other problem areas are treated with a degreaser or appropriate detergent.

We start the wash cutting in the edges, then pressure wash the bulk of the area using our rotary surface cleaners. This is followed by removing any stubborn weeds, lichen or stains. Once the bulk of the clean is competed we follow up with a sturdy rinse to finish off the cleaning.

Re-Sanding your block paving 

The sand is an vital part of block paving, as it keeps the blocks in their place.

Pressure washing block paving removes some of the sand and any existing weeds or plants between the blocks. If the sand is not replaced to stabilize the block paving the blocks can start to move and sink causing dips and gaps that in time cause the collapse of the driveway.

Optimum External Cleaning Services Limited like to offer two grades of kiln dried sand to our customers. Standard Kiln Dried Sand which does the job perfectly well or the more costly ‘No Grow’ kiln dried sand which does the job but also helps prevent weeds growing back. 

Re-sanding of block paving needs to be done when the area has completely dried meaning if the weather isn’t great we’ll need to return to complete it the next day possible.

Avoid any contractor that does not include this very important step.

Indian Sandstone/ Sandstone Patios

Indian Sandstone/Sandstone is one of the most rewarding surfaces we clean. Time after time we clean, and revive these patio areas leaving a big smile on our customers faces as well as our own. 

Being a soft porous stone, if not properly maintained the beauty of the stone deteriorates quickly and is soon infested with algea, moss, and litchen which rapidly turns to a dirty grey.

Cleaning these surfaces is a specialist task. To return these areas to their former glory and bring back their stunning colours we use a combination of pressure washing and soft washing.
